Dogwood 55th Anniversary Celebration!

In the year 1955, Dwight Eisenhower was still in his first term... Bill Haley & His Comets topped the charts with “Rock Around the Clock”… and Toastmasters International chartered club # 1901 in Atlanta. That’s right, our little club is a local area institution with a vibrant history stretching back 55 years and counting!

To celebrate our 55th anniversary, we’re planning an afternoon lunch event at Pappadeux Seafood Kitchen in Alpharetta. We’ve been able to arrange for a private area, secluded enough to enjoy our own conversation, and an all-inclusive price of $20 per person.

After conducting an online survey of the club membership, it seemed that Saturday, October 9th was going to be the date that works best for the greatest number of people. The event is therefore planned from 1:00 to 3:00 that afternoon. We have a substantial amount of space reserved for us, but at the same time we are expecting to see a lot of familiar faces coming back for the special event! So please do RSVP to our club Treasurer, Sharyn, as soon as possible to let her know you’ll be in attendance so we can track where we’re at.

Bring your camera, bring your appetite, and bring some memories of good times with Dogwood Toastmasters! We’ll look back on 55 years of legacy, and forward to many great years ahead!

Fall 2010 Dogwood Barker club newsletter

It's been a little while, but our "Dogwood Barker" club newsletter is back! (click here to download)

I'd like to thank Edwinna, Sharyn, and Josephinefor writing articles... as well as our Area Governors Ron, Phil, Barbara, and Bob agreeing to interviews. Putting this thing together was an educational experience on many levels!

Provided that there is enough interest and material, I'm looking ahead toward a quarterly schedule. That means the next issue will come out around year-end. So I hope this inspires you to try your hand at a little creating writing for the next issue! I believe there are even some projects in the various Leadership manuals that involve assisting with the newsletter. Pretty much anything of interest to Toastmasters is fair game... be it "One-Minute Toastmaster"-type material, recaps of our club social events, information about the Area or District level and beyond, or even biographies of your fellow club members to practice interviewing skills. We could also definitely use more pictures the next time around, so don't be shy about snapping some shots when we have events!

• In order to accommodate all members in their quests to complete project manuals, we decided to try a "Speech-A-Thon" on Saturday, July 17. On that date, in lieu of Table Topics during the first hour, we would have 3-4 extra prepared speeches. If this event is successful, we would plan on having it every six weeks on the first date of the 6-week rotation.

• The CDC Toastmasters is looking for the judges for its annual Humorous Speech Contest, which will be held next Tuesday, June 15, from 12:00-1:00pm. Please contact Ron if you are interested.

• The TLI Training will be on June 26. All Dogwood members are welcome.

• Both Phil and Ron will serve as incoming Area Governor for I-81 and I-84 separately.They will start on July 1st.

• Our annual Humorous and Evaluation Contests is scheduled on July 24, 9:00am-12:00pm, and Dogwood toastmasters will host the area Humorous and Evaluation Contests on August 7, 9:00am-12:00pm.
