With membership renewal period coming up, I am thrilled to be the bearer of the great news that Dogwood's semiannual membership dues will be reduced to $39 (= $27 Toastmasters International dues + $12 Dogwood club dues), starting April 1, 2009. Sharyn will soon announce the firm deadline for due collection. I hope you will all renew and continue to reap the benefits of being a Toastmaster.
As of February 22, 2009, the decision to reduce the club portion of the dues from $18 to $12 has been approved by 32 people (19 yes votes from those present last Saturday when Yolande presented the proposal plus 13 people who expressed their support via e-mail). To finalize the matter, we needed 31 approvals, two-thirds of Dogwood's total membership of 47.

A point of order: Yolande pointed out that Robert's Rules states that votes may only be collected from members who were present at the meeting and heard the arguments for and against the item being voted on. Last Saturday, I counted 22 people when we collected votes, which was shy of the needed quorum of 24. If a quorum isn't present, the decision may still be made, but two-thirds of the members need to approve the decision. With 47 members, that's 31 approvals from the members that were both present and absent.
